Participant Indemnity & Cooking Safety Acknowledgement

I understand that I will be taking part in practical cooking activities under the guidance of Kitchen Addiction.

I acknowledge that cooking activities involve inherent risks, including:

• Cuts and puncture injuries from knives and sharp equipment.
• Burns from ovens, stovetops, hot cookware, steam, hot oil and boiling liquids.
• Fire and electrical hazards.
• Slips, falls and accidental injuries.
• Allergic reactions and potential cross-contact with food allergens.
• Injury arising from incorrect or unsafe use of kitchen equipment.

I understand the nature and potential consequences of these risks.

Kitchen Addiction will take reasonable steps to:

• Provide appropriate instructions and guidance.
• Maintain a reasonably safe cooking environment.
• Supply suitable equipment and utensils.
• Communicate important safety procedures.
• Apply reasonable food hygiene and handling practices.
• Respond appropriately to safety concerns or incidents.

I agree to:

• Follow the chef's safety instructions.
• Use knives and kitchen equipment responsibly.
• Inform the chef if I am unfamiliar with equipment or unsure how to use it.
• Wear suitable clothing and footwear for practical cooking.
• Take reasonable precautions to prevent injury to myself or others.
• Report spills, damaged equipment, hazards and injuries immediately.
• Avoid operating equipment while impaired by alcohol or other substances.
• Respect the safety and wellbeing of fellow participants.

I understand that I may request assistance or decline to perform a particular activity if I feel unsafe.

I understand that the kitchen may handle ingredients including nuts, eggs, dairy, wheat, gluten, shellfish, fish, soy and other allergens.

I am responsible for notifying Kitchen Addiction of relevant food allergies or dietary restrictions before participating.

Kitchen Addiction will take reasonable precautions but cannot guarantee an entirely allergen-free environment.

If I have a severe food allergy, I agree to discuss the suitability of the experience with Kitchen Addiction before participating.

This acknowledgement does not exclude any legal responsibility Kitchen Addiction may have for unsafe food handling or negligence.

I acknowledge the inherent risks associated with practical cooking.

I accept responsibility for my own negligent, reckless or intentional actions.

To the extent permitted by South African law, I agree to indemnify Kitchen Addiction against third-party claims arising directly from my own negligent or intentional unlawful conduct, but only to the extent attributable to my conduct.

This indemnity does not cover loss or injury caused by Kitchen Addiction's negligence or breach of a legal duty where Kitchen Addiction is legally responsible.

Nothing in this document excludes liability for gross negligence, removes statutory consumer rights or excludes any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

I understand that I should take reasonable care of my personal belongings.

Kitchen Addiction will not be responsible for loss or damage where it has no legal responsibility.

This does not limit any liability imposed by applicable law.

I understand that the consumption of alcohol may impair judgement and increase the risk of injury.

Kitchen Addiction may restrict my use of equipment or my participation in an activity where my behaviour presents a reasonable safety concern.

Participants under 18 years of age may participate only where the experience permits minors and Kitchen Addiction has approved their attendance.

Where required, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent and comply with the agreed supervision arrangements.

I understand that promotional photography or video consent is separate from this safety acknowledgement.

I may decline promotional use of my image without affecting my participation.

I confirm that:

• I have been given an opportunity to read this document.
• The significant safety risks have been brought to my attention.
• I understand the nature and potential consequences of those risks.
• I agree to follow the chef's reasonable safety instructions.
• I understand that this document does not remove my rights under South African law.
